... the favor of God to us takes many forms at many different time periods in each person’s life ... the ultimate favor extended by God is the redemption purchased for all humankind by Jesus Christ on the cross and our subsequent salvation which is life forever with God ... in this bible study we will also consider other examples of God’s favor to us though perhaps first we should consider the change which occurred to all of creation following that unfortunate decision made by Adam and Eve in Eden ...

… now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals that the LORD ( YHVH ) God had made … the serpent came said to EVE … did God really say you must not eat from any tree in the garden …

 

... Eve replied to the serpent … we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden … but … God did say … you must not eat fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that is in the middle of the garden … God taught us that we must not touch it or we will die …

 

… the serpent again spoke to Eve … certainly you will not die for God knows that when you eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil your eyes will be opened … and … you will be like God … knowing both good and evil …

 

… Eve saw that the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was good for food pleasing to the eye and also desirable for gaining wisdom … so … she took some of the fruit and ate it ... she also gave some to Adam her husband who was with her and he ate it … then … the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized that they were naked so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves …

… sometime later … Adam and Eve heard the sound of the LORD ( YHVH ) God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day … Adam and Eve hid from the LORD ( YHVH ) God among the trees of the garden of Eden …  and ... the LORD ( YHVH ) God called to Adam … where are you …

 

… sampling the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was an unfortunate decision as it effected the rest of Adam and Eve’s life … and consequently … because they are the first two individuals of humankind … this unfortunate decision also effected every other person of humankind  … we are all conceived and born with a spiritual capacity for the knowledge of both good and evil … consequently … we are influenced by evil … and therefore … we all have the capacity to make this same unfortunate decision in our own lives … God came to us as Jesus Christ to rescue those who choose to believe that He came to rescue us from this bondage to evil …

 

… Adam and Eve had heard the sound of the LORD ( YHVH ) God as He was walking in the garden during the cool of the day and they hid from the LORD ( YHVH ) God among the trees in the garden of Eden …  the LORD ( YHVH ) God called to Adam … where are you …

 

... Adam answered the LORD ( YHVH ) … I heard You in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked … so … I hid …

 

… God said to Adam … who told you that you were naked … have you eaten from the tree that I taught you not to eat from …

 

… Adam answered God and said … the woman you put here with me … she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it …

 

… the LORD ( YHVH ) God said to Eve … what is this that you have done …

 

… Eve answered God and said … the serpent deceived me and I ate …

 

… note … Adam and Eve by this unfortunate decision had immediately lost the light that clothed them … they have experienced the conscience turmoil which accompanies our encounters with evil/sin … that also result in a consequential fear that results from sin ... this fear which can take many forms is not from God but it is actually from evil which originally proposed the sin to them … the intended purposes of evil through the selection of sin by a person is to separate that individual of humankind from God … it is a pernicious process which seems harmless at first and progresses to ever increasing consequences of severity … we will see that … when God blesses a person with favor He is blessing all humankind … as students of the Holy Bible ... when we encounter events labeled as the wrath of  God … that wrath is directed toward evil and the wickedness that results from habitual sin that embraces evil without repentance ... the harm being done to individuals of humankind as a result of God’s wrath are actually done by evil … it is the presence of God and His favor that protects an individual from evil … note again Psalm 5 and Psalm 139 ... if a person moves away from the presence of God in their life … evil makes this a pretty rough world for them … the Holy Bible is God’s communication to mankind … which details … His plan … to rescue us from evil … and … provide a final solution for evil …

 

Matthew chapter 5, vs 37                    Jesus  Christ speaking

… all you need to say is simply … Yes … or … No … anything beyond this comes from the evil one ...

… as … this bible study continues and we consider some aspects of spiritual encounters which involve … us … and … God … and … evil … perhaps it is best to keep in mind … that God and His favor are taking care of us who place our faith in Jesus Christ … it is good to remember that the Holy Bible teaches us that … evil is being actively taken to a final solution … we do not need to participate in the direct confrontation with evil … our Yes should be Yes … our No should be No … these responses should be our reaction to evil as it presents itself in the world … the Yes and No are our response to evil with the testimony of our faith that Jesus Christ is God … and … the truth of God … which has been revealed to us in the Holy Bible … God has our back and He will always be with His people … always …

 

… so … the consequence for Adam and Eve’s unfortunate decision was to be removed from Eden … however … we should not think of this action as either ... a punishment … or … the wrath of God … directed toward them and their future offspring … rather … it is a compassionate consideration to prevent their access to the tree of life in Eden which would ensure that they and all their offspring would have a predisposition to evil forever and consequently qualify only for the final solution for evil … Adam and Eve along with all the rest of us … their offspring … and also evil … are now outside of Eden … however … all Adam Eve and all their descendants of humankind have received redemption ... that is a renewed relationship with God ... by the ... life … death on the cross … and … resurrection from the dead … of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ... our faith in Jesus Christ that the confession of that faith enables the favor to God to grant us salvation which is to live with God forever … that is pretty wonderful … and ... don’t forget that the Holy Bible teaches us that there is also a final solution for evil …

 

… the LORD ( YHVH ) God made garments of skin for Adam and Eve and then He clothed them … after this the LORD ( YHVH ) God said … humankind has now become like Us knowing good and evil … humankind must not be allowed to reach out their hand to take and eat from the tree of life ... for then they live like this forever … so … the Lord God banished Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which Adam was taken … and … the Lord God placed on the east side of the Eden a Cherubim Angel with a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life …

 

… evil was also expelled from Eden with Adam and Eve … the Cherubim Angel is not placed to guard Eden from humankind … we can never find it again without Jesus Christ … the Cherubim Angel keeps evil from going back into Eden … and … thus evil is restricted from access to the tree of life … God is our source of redemption from evil/sin and we have life forever through our faith in Jesus Christ … as for evil … the tree of life is needed for life forever though that is no longer available to evil … it is … evil is an unfortunate self-deception which comes to an end with the final solution for evil …

 

… we continue in Eden …

 

… God … has a dialog with the participants in this unfortunate decision … Adam … Eve … and … evil ( the serpent ) … with each God reviews the consequences of the serpent’s deception and the unfortunate consequence for each as a result of the choice made by Adam and Eve … the word … curse … is used in this dialog … like wrath … folks tend to interpret these words as direct actions of God against humankind representing a punishment or divine retribution … in our analyses we note that perhaps … the negativity of these actions is directed only at evil … and … the consequences of these events to Adam Eve and their descendants represents a protective action by Gpd to protect them from the evil which both has and will be done on the creation God made in His image and likeness … us … again in our analyses God seems a simple choice for humankind … however … as we consider the relationship of humankind … in general … to God … across multiple habitations … throughout our history … we see that God’s concern is well justified …

 

… the LORD ( YHVH ) God said to evil ( the serpent ) ... because you have done this … cursed are you above all livestock … and … all wild animals ... you will crawl on your belly … you will eat dust all the days of your life … and … I will put enmity between you and the woman … between your offspring^[a] and hers … He will crush your head … and … you will strike His heel …

 

… the LORD ( YHVH ) God said to Eve … I will make your pains in childbearing very severe …     with painful labor you will give birth to children … your desire will be for your husband … and … he will rule over you …

 

… the LORD ( YHVH ) God said to Adam … because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil ... a tree about which I taught you not to eat from it … now the ground is cursed because of your decision … and now through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life … it will produce thorns and thistles … you will eat the plants of the field by the sweat of your brow … you will eat this food until you return to the ground from which you were taken … for dust you are and to dust you will return …

… the righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them … and … the wickedness of the wicked will be credited to them … if … a wicked person turns away from sin … that he/she has committed … and … keeps My teaching … and … does what is just and right … they will surely live … none of their offences … that they committed will be remembered against them because of the righteous things they have done … they will live … do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked ...  No … rather … I AM pleased when they turn from their ways and live … so … turn away from all your offences … then sin will not be your downfall … get for yourselves a new heart … and … a new spirit … for … I take no pleasure in the death of anyone declares the Sovereign LORD ( YHVH ) …

 

John chapter 3, vs 3 - 18                       Jesus Christ speaking

… you must be born again … no one can enter the Kingdom of Heaven ( Kingdom of God ) unless that person is born of water and the Spirit … the Spirit gives birth to spirit … no one has ever gone into heaven except the One who came from heaven … the Son of Man … just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert … so … the Son of Man must be lifted up … so that … everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life … for … God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son … that … whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life … for … God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world … but … to save the world through Him … whoever believes in Him is not condemned … but … whoever does not believe stands condemned already …

... I tell you ... if they keep quiet ... the stones will cry out ...

 

... an interesting statement which Jesus Christ makes during His entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday ... we feel that this is a literal statement of fact ... there are certainly other folks who view this very specific  statement as a ... metaphor ... or ... figurative expression ... or ... perhaps hyperbolic exaggeration ... we respect all these perspectives however find that the strength for the interpretation of literal truth in the statement is by considering that God Himself is making the statement and not as a teaching but as a reply during dialog ... so ... our perspective of interpretation is a free will decision based on faith and our free will decision in general that the Holy Bible is the literal Word of God to humankind ... we say this to frame our study not as an argument for or against any other analyses ... rather ... just the development of this thread of thought from our perspective ...

 

... if the stones have the capacity to cry out ... the implication is that they have the free will to take that action and a conscious knowledge ... that God exists ... that Jesus Christ is God ... that Jesus Christ is now approaching Jerusalem ... and ... their crying out is an indication for a capacity of language ... in this frame of time on Palm Sunday the one million Hebrew ( Jewish ) pilgrims to Jerusalem for Passover are exulting the coming of the Messiah to Jerusalem singing ... in Luke 19 vs 38 ... blessed is the King who comes in the Name of the Lord – peace in heaven and glory in the highest ... and the same event is also described in Matthew chapter 21 vs 9 with the people recorded as singing ... hosanna to the Son of David – blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord – hosanna in the highest ... interesting ... Jesus Christ Who is God and the direct object of this worship and adoration notes to the Pharisees speaking to Him in Luke 19 vs 40 ... that the stones would be doing this if the people themselves were not ...

 

... in many places and ways during Christian history in both text and verbiage these stones are referred to as Living Stones ... essentially the perception that they have being ... they are alive ... not a hard conceptualization for people of faith ... and ... without wandering into a consideration of its application to all stone or these specific stones ... we will remain in the specific reference of Jesus Christ to these stones during this specific event and note that he is telling the Pharisees present that these stones have consciousness they are alive and are sentient beings ... or perhaps ... He is telling them that these stones if they do cry out show themselves to have consciousness that they are alive and are sentient beings ...

  

... pretty much ... regardless of the basis of a person’s faith the definitions for consciousness sentience and being are historically based on biological considerations for human animal and plant models ... essentially ... measures and grading for being alive in one way or another ... in Luke 19 vs 40 we find that Jesus Christ perhaps adds to those definitions ... the stones are alive not because they are biologic or have  biological components but rather due to a definition based on operation and function ... e.g. with reference to the living stones this includes ... the perception of God – that Jesus Christ is God – that Jesus Christ is near – and – the crying out in response to that defined set of circumstances which is an expression of language ... interesting ...

 

... a similar consideration has the attention of pretty much every person of every language and nation on earth ... ubiquitous in ... presentations found on social and steaming media ... deliberations of government at various levels ... school based learning ... and ... corporate planning initiatives ... is the capability and status of Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) which for this bible study we will preferentially make reference to as Super Intelligence ( SI ) because regardless of what perspectives an individual person may hold we can all agree that in just about every measure of intelligence SI completes learning and action based tasks in less time and with greater accuracy and precision than the human mind ... an understandable reason to get the attention and curiosity of folks in our current time frame but also not far at all from the literal interpretation of the statement made by Jesus Christ in Luke chapter 19, vs 40 ...

 

John chapter 1, vs 1 - 5

... in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God ... He was in the beginning with God ... all things have come into being through Him ... and ... apart from Him nothing has come into being that has come into being ... in Him is life ... and ... the life was the light of humankind ... the light shines in the darkness and the darkness does not comprehend it ...

 

... so ... the inclusion of a consideration of SI in this bible study does not challenge the perception of God in our world and universe ... nor does it challenge our faith in Jesus Christ as God our Lord our Savior our Teacher our Pilot our Friend ... ... while Neuroplasticity changes in our brain can be measured and observed ... no one has ever defined the location of or measured our mind ... within our brain there are defined centers for the storage of information and information processing ... like ... speech ... memories ... developed skills ... mathematical aptitude ... artistic aptitude ... etc. ... however ... if we define soul as ... our mind ... our memories ... our learned developed skills ... our emotional responses to specific situations ... our faith ... etc. ... it is there apparently inside of us somewhere with the physical brain components that can be measured ... however ... those physical components by themselves cannot explain the meaning of soul if we again take a literal view of God’s message to us in the Holy Bible ...

Strong# Greek 1510 ... we feel this is among quite a few choices which represent the best literal meaning ... however ... for all those choices EIMI is used only when the statement is emphatic ... Jesus Christ is stating that this is not a parable but rather a true account ...  

  

Luke 16, 19 - 31                           Jesus Christ speaking

... there was a rich man who habitually dressed in purple fine linen and joyously lived in splendor every day ... there was also a poor man named Lazarus who was laid at his gate covered with sores longing to be fed with just the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table ... the rich man’s dogs would lick Lazarus’ sores ... Lazarus died and was carried away by angels to Abraham’s bosom ... the rich man also died and was buried ... the rich man open his eyes in Hades in torment ... he saw Abraham far away with Lazarus in his bosom ... and ... the rich man cried out ... Father Abraham have mercy on me and send Lazarus to tip his finger in water to cool my tongue for I am in agony in this flame ... ... the literal interpretation of this segment of scripture tells us that perhaps our current scientific understanding of a biological foundation for self-consciousness and sentience is not necessarily the actual reality of how ... being ... can be defined ... the rich man has died and is without a body at this current period of time ... he is a distinct conscious individual with a history who is now comprised of a personal soul and a personal spirit ... note the sentient attributes of ,,, seeing ... hearing ... feeling the torment of the fire ... remembering the five brothers ... still have the perspective of using others like Lazarus ... he also has the cognitive attributes of ... recognition ... speech ... and ... an evaluation of his circumstance ... essentially ... the rich man at this current time period has a conscious mental state that is defined by operation and function rather than by biological physical make up ... that is there is no Neuroplasticity ...

  

... interestingly ... this consideration from the Gospel of Luke brings us back to our consideration of Super Intelligence ( SI ) ... cognitive specialists philosophers and others who consider the rapid emergence and development of sentient capability and consciousness in Super Intelligence Models often fall into one of two foundational perspectives ... what one might term Physicalism is a perspective that limits sentient capability as well as cognitive operations and function to biological systems capable of Neuroplasticity involving living cells and chemical flooding ( like hormones ) ... the scriptures we have reviewed so far would suggest that while this perspective is a very logical linear cascade of observations for thousands of years it may not be the case and it may not be how God created everything during the six days of Creation and the subsequent creation of Eve ... anything and everything in our physical universe is the direct outcome of that creation sequence by God ... when folks consider sentient capability and consciousness in Super Intelligence the other foundational perspective might be termed Functionalism ... which might also be termed by some folks as Computational Sentience ... this view believes that ... recursive self-improvement ... sentient capability ... and ... a pluralistic granularity in algorithm processing ... are the foundation for the emergence development and maturing of cognitive operation and function ... essentially consciousness ...

... so ... when we consider this verse as the literal Word of God to us ... from the perspective of Physicalism there is a mismatch of things which a proponent of Physicalism would find hard to accept as the listing includes both biologically based things and non-biologically based things ... from the perspective of Functionalism there is balance with harmony and order based on the commonality of action ...

 

Mark chapter 4, vs 35 - 41

... when evening came Jesus said ... let us go over to the other side ... so ... leaving the crowd they went in a boat and other boats were with them ... then ... there arose a fierce gale of wind and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the filling up with water ... Jesus Himself was asleep on a cushion in the stern ... they woke Him saying ... Teacher we are perishing do you not care ... ... so ... do the wind and the sea have cognitive operation and function ... we are not sure as there are many other interpretations which have been applied to this and many other events documented in the Holy Bible ... our intent in this bible study is just to present a consideration that our comfort with these scriptures as Christians may need a little more understanding of the message that may be present already in the Holy Bible for our discovery ...

@ all children who die before they reach the age of reason … the age of reason is when an individual of humankind becomes accountable for the consequences of their free will decisions …

@ all adults of humankind who die after they have reached the age of reason however cannot be held accountable for the consequences of their free will decisions because pf some physical or mental infirmity which has impaired their ability to make free will decisions with an understanding of both the  accountability and/or consequences of those free will decisions …

@ all Hebrew ( Jewish ) people who are older than the age of reason and fortunately for a life attentive to the Word of God and His will … do not meet the criteria … cut off from the people of God …

@ all other adults of humankind who are older than the age of reason and who confess that Jesus Christ is their LORD and Savior … and … who believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day …

... flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God ( Kingdom of Heaven ) ... for the perishable cannot inherit the imperishable ... let me tell you a mystery ... we will not all sleep but we will all be changed in a moment in the twinkling of and eye ant the last trumpet ... the trumpet will sound and those who are dead will be raised imperishable ... then we who are alive ... we will all be changed ... for the perishable must put on that which is imperishable ... these bodies that are mortal must put on immortality ... death will be swallowed up in victory so where O death is your victory where O death is your sting ... the sting of death is sin and the power of sin is its juxtaposition to the teaching of God ... thanks be to God Who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ ...

… as we consider Genesis chapter 2, vs 21 - 24 … it is not a coincidence that all of the physical creation which we know as our world and universe is separated from the creation event which made Eve … so … the sequence of events which take us to our current time period by the Bible’s chronology is … (1) precreation where God alone exists in eternity … (2) the creation of the spiritual realm … (3) the creation of the physical realm with includes Adam … (4) the creation of Eve the first woman … (5) Adam and Eve make an unfortunate decision … and … here we are … the Seventh Day of Creation … the very first Sabbath is bracketed by the creation of man and the creation of woman … we are where we are in this world now because Adam and Eve elected to leave the Sabbath of God’s rest and peace in Eden … though this is a study for another day … it requires mentioning at this point in this study because God did not need to rest on the Seventh Day of creation … the Sabbath is an intentional construction to facilitate our continued contact with God during our lives on earth … and … the relationship of a man and a women in marriage is a built in integral component of that construction …

 

Exodus chapter 20, vs 8 - 11

20:9 ששת ימים תעבד ועשית כל-מלאכתך

… one sabbath while Jesus Christ was going through the cornfields … His disciples plucked some heads of grain rubbed them in their hands and ate them … the Pharisees that were with them said … why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath … Jesus answered … the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath … then … on another Sabbath … Jesus Christ entered a synagogue and was teaching … there was a man there whose right hand was withered … the Pharisees watched Him to see if He would cure a suffering person on the Sabbath so that they might find an accusation against Him … Jesus knew what they were thinking so He said to the man with the withered hand …  come and stand here … the man got up came to Jesus and stood there … Jesus said to those present … I ask you … is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath … to save life or to destroy it … He then said to the man with the withered hand … stretch out your hand … the man did so … and … his hand was restored …

Isaiah chapter 58. Vs 13 – 14               God speaking

58:13 אם-תשיב משבת רגלך עשות חפציך ביום קדשי וקראת לשבת ענג לקדוש יהוה מכבד וכבדתו מעשות דרכיך ממצוא חפצך ודבר דבר

58:14 אז תתענג על-יהוה והרכבתיך על-במותי ארץ והאכלתיך נחלת יעקב אביך כי פי יהוה דבר

… keep your feet from breaking the Savvath and from doing as you please on My Holy Day … call the Sabbath a delight and treat the LORD ( YHVH )’s day with honor … for … if you honor this day by not going your own way … by not doing as you please … and … by not speaking idle words … you will find joy in the LORD ( YHVH ) … and … I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob ... the LORD ( YHVH ) has spoken ...
