Summary of Book 1 - Chapters 10, 11, and 12
In these three chapters, Calvin condemns idolatry. You cannot represent God, who is a Spirit, in a graven image. You cannot create a finite object with your own hands and make it an object of worship. Calvin condemns the "papists" who use statues, relics, etc. as representative of deity and as teaching objects for simpler people. You cannot look upon the face of God and live. And it is impossible to create a finite image to represent God, because God is an infinite being. We are made in the image and likeness of God. If you want to see God, look in a spiritual mirror at yourself.
