Summary of Book 2 - Chapter 10

The Similarity of the Old and New Testaments

The essence of this chapter is that the promise of the redemption that Jesus brought to the world applied to the Jews before his coming as well as after his coming. There are some who erroneously believe that the Jews have been abandoned by God. Not so. They are still the chosen people. Before the appearance of Jesus on the earth, there were many godly men and women. The Old Testament is filled with the stories of their faithfulness. Many, including Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Job, etc. had lives filled with trial and tribulation. And they died without the complete fulfillment that they sought on earth to be reconciled with God for their sins. But they still, even up to the point of death, maintained their faith in the promises of God that they would be redeemed. God does not lie. And his unconditional promises are always fulfilled. The ancient patriachs believed that, someday, a Messiah would appear and even after death would reconcile them to God, the Father, for their sins. The sects in Judaism who did not believe in life after death like the Sadducees were in error. No wonder their name starts with "Sad".
