Jubilee + Shamita

God in the Holy Bible uses a solar calendar in which one year is 360 days …

1 day             =             24 hours … setting sun to setting sun

                1 week                 =             7 days … Sabbath to Sabbath

                1 month             =             30 days ... defined in Genesis

                1 year                  =             12 months  … 360 days

7 Years               =             1 Shamita Cycle of Years

1 + 49 Years     =             1 Jubilee Cycle of Years

Genesis chapter 1, vs 3 - 5

… God said … let there be light … and … there was light … God saw that the light was good ... He separated the light from the darkness … God called the light day … and … the darkness He called night … and … there was evening and there was morning … the first day …

Genesis chapter 1, vs 31

… God saw all that he had made, and it was very good … and … there was evening … and … there was morning … the sixth day …

Genesis chapter 2, vs 1 – 3

… the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array … by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing and on the seventh day He rested … God blessed the seventh day and made it holy …

Genesis chapter 7, vs 11 - 12

… in the 600th year of Noah’s life … on the seventeenth day of the second month … on that day … all the springs of the great deep burst forth … the floodgates of the heavens were opened … and … rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights …

Genesis chapter 7, vs 24

… the waters swelled on the earth for 150 days …

Genesis chapter 8, vs 3 – 5

… at the end of the 150 days the water had gone down … on the 17th day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat … the waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible …

Genesis chapter 8, vs 13 - 14

… by the 1st day of the first month of Noah’s 601st year the water had dried up from the earth … Noah removed the covering from the ark and the surface of the ground was dry … by the 27th day of the 2nd month the earth was completely dry …

Shamita A – as the year for an Agricultural Sabbath

Leviticus chapter 25, vs 1 – 7            God speaking

… note the ALEF-TAV occasion at the beginning of verse 5 …

… the LORD spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai saying … tell the people of Israel … say to them … when you come into the land which I AM giving to you … give the land a sabbath to the LORD … for six years you will sow your fields and for six years will prune your vineyards to gather in their crops … but … during the seventh year the land is to have a sabbath rest … a sabbath to the LORD …  you will eat what grows of its own accord … you will not sow your field … you will not prune your vineyard … את … you will eat what grows of its own accord as it grows … you will not reap … you will not gather the grapes of untrimmed vines … for … the land will have a sabbatical year ... what grows of its own accord is the product of the sabbath year for you to eat … you yourself … your male and female slaves … your hired workers … your foreign residents …all those others who also live as aliens among you … your cattle … and … all the other animals that are in your land … all will have the sabbath year crops to eat …

Shamita B – as the year to make provision for the poor

Exodus chapter 23, vs 10 – 11          God speaking

… you will sow your land for six years and gather in its yield … but … in the seventh year you will let the land rest and lie fallow … so that the needy of your people may eat and whatever they leave the beasts of the field will eat … you are to do the same with your vineyards and your olive groves …

Shamita C – as the year for the release of debt

Deuteronomy chapter 15, 1 – 6       God speaking

… at the end of every seven years … you will grant a remission of debt … creditor will release what has loaned to a neighbor … whatever remains of a debt will not be not collected for any loan to a member of Israel … the year of the LORD’s remission is proclaimed … though … from a foreigner you may exact the remaining debt … but … your hand will release whatever remains of your brother’s debt … there will be no poor among you … the LORD will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess … listen to the teaching of the LORD our God … observe carefully all this teaching  which I am sharing with you today … the LORD our God will bless you as just as He has promised you …  and … you will lend to many nations and you will not need to borrow … you will rule over many nations but they will not rule over you …

Shamita D – the Shamita year and the people of the LORD

Deuteronomy chapter 15, vs 7 – 18              God speaking

… if there is are poor Hebrews among you … one of My people … your people … in any of your towns in your land which the LORD our God is giving us … you will not harden your hearts nor close your hand from your poor brethren … you will freely open your hand to then and generously lend sufficiently for their needs for whatever they may lack … do not have any base thoughts in your heart that the seventh year is near and you become hostile to the poor and give them nothing … for … they may cry out to the LORD against you regarding your sin … so … give generously and then your heart will not be grieved … because … when you give to the poor the LORD our God will bless you in all your work and in all your undertakings … for … the poor will never cease to be present in the land which the LORD our God has given to us … therefore … freely open your hand to the needy and poor Hebrews of our land … and … if a Hebrew man or woman, is sold to you … they may serve you for six years … then … in the seventh year … you will set them free … and  … when you set them free … do not send them away empty handed … rather … furnish them liberally from your flock and from your threshing floor and from your wine vats … give to them as the LORD our God has blessed you … and … remember that we were all once slaves in Egypt until the LORD our God remembered us and saved us … and … should a Hebrew slave say to you and your family they they desire not to leave you because they love you and your household and fare well with you … then you will take an awl and pierce it through their ear into the door and they will be your servant forever … this applies for both manservants and maidservants ... so … when you set a Hebrew slave free who has given you six years of service with double the service of a hired person … do not let this be hard for you … for … the LORD our God will then bless you in everything that you do …

… so … to summarize the Shamita cycle … the seven year cycle which ends with the Shamita year results in recurring cycles of seven years each … again it is the seventh year that is termed the Shamita Year … the literal meaning of Shamita is … to release … during the Shamita Year … ( 1 ) the loan balance between each Hebrew ( Jewish ) debtor and their Hebrew ( Jewish ) creditor is … released … that is … the outstanding balance is forgiven … essentially … a scheduled loan amnesty every seven years … ( 2 ) all cultivated land is allowed to rest for one year … essentially a Sabbath rest for the land … Hebrew ( Jewish ) folks serving other Hebrew ( Jewish ) folks as indentured servants are redeemed from that bondage … ( 3 ) the people of God during the Shemitah Year are released from their daily cares and concerns to cultivate food so they can focus on the LORD ( YHVH ) their God … Shamita seven year cycles group into fifty year cycles termed Jubilee year cycles which represent … seven sequential Shamita cycles plus one additional year which is termed the Year of Jubilee … so … seven sequential Shamita cycles plus one additional year are a Jubilee cycle … a Jubilee cycle is 50 years … each Year of Jubilee follows the Shamita Year of the last Shamita cycle for a group of seven Shamita cycles … note that there are a lot of 7s involved … during the Year of Jubilee … ( 1 ) all cultivated land is allowed to rest for a second year following the immediately preceding Shamita Year … ( 2 ) all Hebrew slaves are released from their bondage … ( 3 ) all land in the county of Israel that was sold is returned to the original Hebrew ( Jewish ) tribe and family group to whom it was originally allocated by God through Joshua … ( 4 ) the people of God during the Year of Jubilee again for a second year are released from their daily cares and concerns to focus on the LORD ( YHVH ) their God …

Jubilee A – Jesus Christ declares the year of Jubilee

Luke chapter 4, vs 16 – 21                   Jesus Christ speaking

… Jesus came to Nazareth where He had been brought up … as was His custom He went to the Synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read … the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him … Jesus opened the scroll to the place where it is written … the Spirit of the LORD is upon Me because He anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor … He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives … and … the recovery of sight to the blind … to set free those who are oppressed … and … to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD … then Jesus closed the scroll … gave it back to the attendant … and … sat down … everyone in the Synagogue was fixed on Him … then Jesus said … today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing …

Jubilee B – the Messiah - the favorable year of the LORD …

Isaiah chapter 61, vs 1 – 3                   God speaking

… the Spirit of the LORD God is upon Me … the LORD has anointed Me … to bring good news to the [b]afflicted … to bind up the brokenhearted … to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom for the prisoners … to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD - the day of vengeance of our God … to comfort all those who mourn - those who mourn in Zion – to give and grant them a garland instead of ashes – the oil of gladness instead of mourning – the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting … they will be called the oaks of righteousness … the planting of the LORD … so that … the LORD will be glorified …

Note … the day of vengeance of our God … is the wrath of God coming to enable the final solution for evil sin and wickedness … see other bible studies by the John Calvin Study Group … the Holy Bible defines a project plan with two goals … the redemption of all humankind which was achied by Jesus Christ by His … life … death on the cross … and … resurrection from the dead … the final solution for evil sin and wickedness is also achieved by Jesus Christ in a process prophetically proclaimed in the Holy Bible …

Jubilee C – how to live on and exchange the land belonging to the LORD

Leviticus chapter 25, vs 8 – 17                         God speaking

Note the ALAF-TAV in verse 10

… you are to count off seven sabbaths of years for yourself … seven times seven years … so that you have the time of the seven sabbaths of years … forty-nine years … then … sound the ram’s horn abroad on the tenth day of the seventh month … on the Day of Atonement … sound the ram’s horn all through your land … at this time … after each cycle of seven sabbaths of years … you will consecrate  את  the fiftieth year and proclaim release  throughout the land to all its inhabitants … this is the Jubilee year for you …  each of you will then return to their family property and your family... each of you shall will have the fiftieth year as a Jubilee year … on which … you will not sow … nor reap any aftergrowth … nor will you gather grapes from the untrimmed vines … for this is the Jubilee year … this year is holy to you … you will eat what crops grow by themselves out of your family fields … in the  year of Jubilee … each of you will return to your family’s originally property allocated by lot when the land was given to us … and … if during the previous forty-nine years … you made a sale of your land to another Hebrew not of your family or if you or another Hebrew buy’s from a Hebrew not part of their family all or part of that Hebrew’s family land … in the year of Jubilee … you will return the land to the original family … you will not wrong one another … during the fourty-nine years prior to a Jubilee year … you will sell or purchase land at a price corresponding to the number of years after the last Jubilee year and the number of years until the next Jubilee year … you will purchase and sell land according to the number of years of crops that will be harvested in proportion to the number of years until the next Jubilee year … the selling price will  increase when there are many years and when the number of years are few the selling price will diminish … all in proportion to the number of years remaining until the next Jubilee year … for … what is being sold is the number of crops until the next Jubilee year … so … do not wrong one another  … rather … have reverence for the LORD our God who is the owner of this land …

Jubilee D – tribal inheritance in the land belonging to the LORD

Numbers  chapter 36, vs 4                                  God speaking

… when the year of Jubilee for the people of Israel arrives … the family allocations remain as the inheritance of the tribe to which each family belongs … so … each tribe will retain the original allocations by lot given to each family of that tribe from the time of our fathers …

Jubilee E – return of the land belonging to the LORD to the original family

Leviticus chapter 25, vs 23 – 28                      God speaking

Note the ALAF-TAV in verse 25

… the land cannot be sold permanently … for the land is Mine … you are but aliens and sojourners with Me …. thus … for every piece of your property that is sold and transferred to another Hebrew you must provide for the redemption of that land … and so … when fellow Hebrews become so poor that they are forced to sell part of their family property … the nearest kinsman of their family is to come and redeem ( buy back )  את  what the poor relatives have sold … however … if there is no kinsman redeemer and the poor family who have sold their land recover sufficient means for the redemption of the land … the buy back price will be calculated by the number of years since the original sale of the property and those Hebrews who purchased the property will refund the amount equal to the number of years until the next Jubilee year at the time when the property is returned to its original family … additionally … in those situations when there is no kinsman redeemer and the poor family does not find sufficient means to redeem their property that was sold … the property will remain in the hands of the Hebrew purchaser until the year of Jubilee … and … at the start of the Jubilee year the property that was sold will revert its original family …

Jubilee F – the year of Jubilee is the year of freedom

Leviticus chapter 25, vs 39 – 55                      God speaking

… if a Hebrew man or woman becomes so poor with regard to you that they sell themself to you … you will not subject them to a slave’s service … rather … they will be treated as someone you have hired … or … they will be treated as if they were a sojourner who has sought work with you … and … they will serve with you until the year of Jubilee … at the beginning of the Jubilee year … they will go out from you with their children … they will go back to their family … so that … they may return to the property of their forefathers … each of you Hebrews are My children whom I brought out from the land of Egypt ... no Hebrew man or woman is ever to be sold by you as a slave … you will not rule over Hebrews with severity … rather … you are to have reverence for your God … if necessary acquire slaves from the pagan nations that surround you or from the children of sojourners who live as aliens among you whom they have produced in your land … such slaves you can bequeath to your children … but … all Hebrews are the children of Israel and you must not rule over them with severity … if a Hebrew man or woman becomes so poor that they sell themselves to a non-Hebrew who lives among you or who is a sojourner that Hebrew has the same rights for redemption as if they had sold themselves to a Hebrew … if they prosper they have the right to redeem themselves … and … any other Hebrew has the right to redeem them … any blood relative that they may have has the duty to redeem them … and so … for the redemption … the purchaser will calculate from the year when the Hebrew sold themselves to the next year of Jubilee … the price of the redemption sale will correspond to the number of years until the next year of Jubilee … the purchaser will refund part of the purchase price in proportion to that number of years … if there are many years until the next year of Jubilee then there will be more money refunded than if few years remain until the next year of Jubilee … the redemption price is calculated in proportion to these years … any non-Hebrew or sojourner among you who purchases a Hebrew man or woman as a slave will not treat them with severity in your sight … for … the children of Israel are My children whom I brought out of the land of Egypt … I AM the LORD your God …

… so … the seven year Shamita cycles and the fifty year Jubilee year cycles are a dynamic teaching which the LORD established for each upcoming generation of His people … the Hebrew people … the teachning permits a knowledge and understanding … God among them … they among each other … and … they among the other peoples of the earth … God’s use of these cycles extends beyond this particular application to other uses which are also both teaching and informational … we find in the Holy Bible that the history of our current earth and all of human history groups into three periods of 40 Jubilee cycles each … that is … three periods of 2,000 years … or … a 6,000 year period from Adam and Eve leaving Eden to approximately our current time frame … 120 Jubilee cycles …

Sept. 11, 2018

End of the 120th Jubilee Cycle

essentially here we are

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

three periods of forty Jubilee Cycles each – 2,000 years each

one biblical year is 360 days

one Jubilee cycle is 50 years

the last 40 Jubilee Cycles is the Christian age

the gap between the 69th and 70th weeks of Daniel

… so … we find an application of the Shamita in …

Daniel chapter 9 vs 24

Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, … to finishtransgression … , and … to make an end … of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy

Key words to consider the Hebrew meaning:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Transgression

Strong# Hebrew 6588 … noun … PESHA … as present in this verse …  הַפֶּ֜שַׁע  … actual glyph spelling is … פֶשַׁע  … the best literal meanings of PESHA include … rebellion … or … transgression … note for the use of this word in this verse the prefix HA which in our analysis indicates a singular or specific rebellion or transgression … again in our analysis this would reference … Genesis 1 vss 2 … Isaiah 14 … and … Ezekiel 28 … interesting … the root of PESHA is the Hebrew verb … PASHA … Strong# Hebrew 6586 … פָשַׁע   the best literal meanings of PASHA include … to revolt … to rebell … to transgress … the context of this word into English is essentially to break away from the just and established authority … the root of PASHA is Hebrew verb … PASA … Strong# Hebrew 6585 … פָשַׂע  … the best literal meaning of PASA into English is to step however the context of the meaning is to step or stride with a swift rushing movement toward someone or something to clear the way and break free … interesting …

To finish  ( To seal up )

Strong# Hebrew 3607 … verb … KALA … as present in this verse … לְכַלֵּ֨א … the actual glyph spelling is … כָּלָא … the best literal meanings of KALA include … to hold back … to stay … to restrain … to shut up … the context is an active process which brings to an end an action or set of actions by an active process or word … essentially something is stopped and held in a specific and separate state … e.g. a stone wall can stay the forward motion of a car … while the English translation gives an impression of something coming to an end … the Hebrew verb references a change in state … again like the forward motion of a car vs a car that has been stopped … note for the use of this word in this verse the prefix LAMED which in our analysis indicates an accented focus of purpose … to … e.g. … to restrain … or … to stay … with reference to Genesis 1:2 Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 … evil and wickedness will come to a changed state in the lake of fire … the second death … it is not an end or finish rather it is a change of state that permits the decent of the New Jerusalem and the new heaven and earth … in our analysis of various translations of KALA to English for this verse the selection … to seal up … appears to be the most appropriate …

Daniel chapter 9 vs 24

Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, … to finishtransgression … , and … to make an end … of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy …

With reflection on these word studies … and … in the sequence as provided in the Hebrew text … we find defined the purpose for both the first and second coming of Jesus Christ …

A.           the first coming of Jesus Christ is

  1. To finish transgression
  2. To bring in everlasting righteousness
  3. To make reconciliation for iniquity

B.           the second coming of Jesus Christ is

  1. To make an end of sins
  2. To anoint the Most Holy
  3. To seal up vision and prophecy
